Visiting an unfamiliar congregation can be intimidating.  Let’s take away the mystery so you know exactly what to expect.

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. (Hebrews 13:15-16)

God invites us to come into his presence through Christ. His intent is to refocus our attention on what He is doing in our lives to make us more like Christ.  You will notice that worship together in “Spirit and truth” is directed toward God not ourselves.

1.   Sing With Your Heart

We sing Acapella—without instrumental accompaniment.  The instrument is our hearts making melody to the Lord.  The choir is all of us joining our hearts and voices together in songs, psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.  Using song, we teach, instruct, and admonish one another in all wisdom as we let the word of God dwell in us richly.  We look forward to the day in the future when we shall sing in heaven the new song written by God himself.  It is called Worthy is the lamb.”  (See Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:8-20; Revelation 5:9-14)

2.   Listen to God’s Instruction

The scriptures testify of Jesus.  They lead us to Him and the eternal life only He can give.  As Christ followers we sit at the feet of Jesus.  The Spirit of God is our teacher and guide.  He opens our hearts and minds so that we can increase our understanding of God and his will for our lives.  The gospel of Jesus Christ must not only be heard, but also put into practice.  We seek to apply what we hear God say to us.  (See John 5:34-40; 1 Corinthians 2:6-15; Psalm 119:1-2; Matthew 7:24-27)

3.   Remember Jesus

In the Lord’s Supper we remember Christ’s presence and God’s work in our lives.  Every Sunday we gather together and celebrate what God has done for us and continues to do in Christ.  We remember that Jesus is coming again and will take us home to be with our Father in heaven forever.  Unleavened bread (His body) brings memory to the activity of Jesus on this earth.  Fruit of the vine (His blood) brings memory to the cross and its meaning for our lives now.  Because of His sacrifice we enjoy forgiveness of our sins.  We celebrate having been cleansed in our conscience from acts that lead to death.  We are now free to live a life of faith and love serving our Lord and Savior.  (See Hebrews 8:8-12; 9:14; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34; Galatians 5:6)

4.   Pray in the name of Jesus

In prayer we communicate with God through the name of Jesus.  We share with Him our needs, feelings and concerns.  We ask God for mercy and help in our sufferings and struggles.  We thank God for all the blessings He has given us in Christ.  We believe prayer is the force that moves the hand of God.  We seek to be more like Jesus in prayer.  We approach the throne of grace believing that God will give us grace and mercy in our time of need and hope.  (See Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7; Luke 11:1-13; James 5:13-18)

5.   Give to the Lord

We give of our money and ourselves remembering the generosity of Jesus Christ.  How and why we give grows as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We purpose in our hearts weekly to reflect on how God has blessed us. We give as we have been prospered.  The attitude we bring to giving is one of overflowing joy.  The money given is used to help those in need and to advance the cause of Christ.  (See 2 Corinthians 8:1-24; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2)

6.   Respond to the Call of God

At the end of each message from God’s word a song of invitation is given.  Those who have been convicted by God have an opportunity to express their need and reset the compass of their heart toward God.  You also might witness someone become a child and a part of His family.  They receive the Lord Jesus Christ by believing who He is, by repenting of their sins, by confessing Jesus as Lord, and by being baptized in the name of Jesus.  When a person calls on the name of the Lord, his sins are washed away and the Spirit of God is given as a gift affirming we belong to God.  (Note Acts 2:36-38; 16:29-34; 22:16; Romans 6:1-11; 10:6-13; Colossians 2:6-15)

To assemble together in God’s presence is God’s will

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.  (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  2 Corinthians 13:14

How Can We Help You?

If you are here today with a specific need or prayer concern, here is how we can help.  You can write your need on the family response card on the back of the pew or you can talk to the minister or elders.  Our goal is to help people connect with God.
